RESEARCHES, STUDIES AND ACTIVITIES Training and teaching activities Master in Communication of Science and Sustainable Innovation organised by University of Milano Bicocca – 2011 Design, organisation, teaching and administration of the training course “The role of the Press Officer in EU Election Observation Missions: skills and activities”. The course was organised in the frame NEEDS Project (Network of Europeans for Electoral and Democracy Support - needs-network) financed by the European Commission – 2007 Design, organisation and teaching of training courses addressed to the management of the Regional Councils for Communications. The courses were based on content analysis, statistics, media monitoring of political pluralism, gender and the media – 2007, 2004 Design, organisation, teaching and administration of the seminar for experienced media analysts “The role of the Media Analyst in EU Election Observation Missions”. The seminar was organised in the frame NEEDS Project (Network of Europeans for Electoral and Democracy Support - needs-network) financed by the European Commission – 2006 Design, organisation and teaching of the training course “Tools and techniques media monitoring” for the management of Toscana’s Regional Council for Communications - 2003 Design, organisation and teaching of the training course “Quantitative contents analysis and descriptive statistics applied media monitoring” for the management of Veneto’s Regional Council for Communications - 2003 Design, organisation and teaching of the training course “Media and political pluralism: ” for the management of Tuscany’s Regional Council for Communications - 2002 Partners in Eurosservatori network financed by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and trainers for the courses organised within the project (European observers: the training of election observers under a common European approach - eurosservatori) – since 2001 Partners of the NEEDS Project Network (Network of Europeans for Electoral and Democracy Support - needs-network.org - seminars) financed by the European Commission – since 2001 Founding member of the Forum on International Justice and Human Rights of the University of Pavia – Interdepartmental Centre Social Philosophy studies and researchers (unipv-forum-obiettivi). In the frame of the meetings organised by the Forum, researchers of the Osservatorio di Pavia have lectured on topics related to media, freedom of expression and protection of journalists - since 2001 Training on “Media Management and Communication”, CEPOL - Police Commander Course on Non-Military Crisis Management - 2002 Development of standard curricula on media education targeted at secondary schools – since 2001 Lecturing activities on subjects related to media, freedom of expression and media observation in the frame of the seminars and summer schools on Democratisation and Human Rights organised by ISPI – Institute for International Politics Studies of Milan (ispionline) – 2006, 2001 Lecturing activities on subjects related to media, freedom of expression and media observation in the frame of the seminars organised by Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna of Pisa (sssup - eng) – 1998, 2002, 2004, 2005 Since 1995, researchers of the Osservatorio di Pavia are regularly employed as speakers for academic seminars and conferences as well as lecturers for academic courses on media studies, content analysis and freedom of expression. Five experts from the Osservatorio di Pavia and 23 trained local assistants monitored the public television of the Republic of Slovakia within the OSCE/ODHIR Observation Mission for parliamentary election on the request of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Parliamentary Election - Republic of Montenegro - FRY – 1998. Four experts from the Osservatorio di Pavia and 14 trained local assistants monitored the public television of the Republic of Montenegro within the OSCE/ODHIR Observation Mission for parliamentary election on the request of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Presidential Election - Republic of Serbia - FRY – 1997. Four experts from the Osservatorio di Pavia and 12 trained local assistants monitored the national channels of the Serbian Republic within the OSCE Observation Mission for presidential elections on the request of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Parliamentary Election - Albania – 1997. In June 1997 two experts from the Osservatorio di Pavia monitored the coverage of the election campaign by the Albanian national television. The results were published in the Council of Europe's final report on the situation of the Albanian media. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Since 1998, the Osservatorio di Pavia also provides individual media analysts to the Core Staff of Election Observation Missions of international organisations. The methodology for media analysis currently employed by such missions has been defined and consolidated by the Osservatorio.
